Copper can only be heated into CuO in an alcohol lamp, which is difficult to be oxidized in dry air, but easy to be oxidized in moist air to form basic copper carbonate (2Cu+O2+H2O+CO2==Cu2(OH)2CO3). Compared with copper sheet, copper powder is more easily oxidized because its surface is in contact with air.
