They are mainly used to make rocket engines and spacecraft combustion chambers. Parts, supersonic aircraft, high temperature resistant furnace parts, parts resistant to nitric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid corrosion, etc.
Seamless tubes are manufactured using extrusion, tube reduction, or deep drawing from sheet metal. The welding manufacturing method is to form the strip first, then form it into a tube shape, and then weld the joints with gas tungsten arc (GTAW).
Tantalum, unlike many other metals, must be very clean before heat treatment. If it is not cleaned very clean, surface contamination caused by hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon will occur and become a brittle (hardened) structure. Because hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and carbon are very active intrusive elements within the temperature range of tantalum annealing, once contaminated by these elements, there is no way to get rid of it except re-smelting.
