How to Select Heat Treatment Trays for Industrial Furnaces
Heat treatment trays are work carriers, not commodity shelves. A reliable selection starts with the furnace process, the actual load and the replacement risk—not a long unqualified alloy list.
Describe the furnace duty
State carburizing, nitriding, annealing, solution treatment or another cycle; provide atmosphere, peak and normal temperature, dwell, heating/cooling rate and expected starts. These conditions influence oxidation, carburization, thermal fatigue, creep and distortion.

Specify material responsibly
ASTM A297/A297M covers general-purpose heat-resistant iron-chromium and iron-chromium-nickel castings. It is useful when the purchase order identifies the grade and acceptance requirements; it does not make one alloy a universal answer for every furnace. See ASTM A297/A297M.
Put design requirements on the drawing
Show outside dimensions, ribs, supports, locating features, drainage, machined faces and interfaces. ISO 8062-4:2023 provides a framework for communicating casting tolerances, machining allowance and draft; the approved drawing must set the actual requirement.
Agree inspection before manufacture
Typical requirements include traceability, dimensional checks, visual criteria, material evidence, NDT where justified, marking and packing. Match documents to the actual failure consequence rather than asking for generic paperwork.
